The Grameen Bank , Dr: Yunus and Nobel prize are now very well - known by the peoplw of the world. Actually, these three things have made us a proud nation in the map of the world. Dr Muhammad Yunus, a professor of  economics in Chittagong University and the founder of the Grameen Bank was born in 1940 at Hathajari in Chittagong district. He is the third of 14 children of his parents. In 1945 , he was admitted into local primary school . From his early life, he was a bright student . He completed his graduation and post graduation in economics from Dhaka University. After completing post graduation he was awarded a full bright scholarship in 1965 and received his P H D degree from Vanderbilt University in the USA . In 1972, he became  the head of the department of economics of Chittagong University . The area of Chittagong University is situated in rural area at  Hathajari thana where most of the people lived by hardship. He saw the condition of life style of the villagers . Sometimes Dr Yunus went out university campus and met poor villagers. He heard the story of  suffering people . Hearingthe exploitation of the poor by landlord, he made up his mind to do well for them. And it was the main concept behind the Grameen Bank . By using short snd easy loan from this bank , thousands of landless people are  now well off.  Basically, the Grameen Bank provides loan for the  poor and follows the  micro-credit system. As a result , thusands of people have come out from poverty line and they are now well off . In 1997 , professor Yunus organised the World's First Micro-credit summit in Washington DC where he explained how the conditions of the poor can be developed by Micro-credit programmes. The scholars of the whole world praised his method and accepted it to use their own countries. The concept of Grameen Bank has spread in 185 countries as a poverty alleviation  system. he was awarded international Prize for his human development service . In  2006, Dr Yunus and his brainchild Grameen Bank  achieved the famous Nobel Prize for promoting world peace. Bangladesh feels  proud of professor Yunus , the sparkling star  of the land.
