The World Trade Centre in America was a magnificent and splendid skyscraper. It was internationally important in all respects. It was a 110 storeyed building with 43,600 windows and 250 elevators that has ever been built. The world eople specially the Americans took a mighty pride for it. It had a good number of permanent tenants including banks, restaurants, and other govt. and non-govt. offices .The World Trade Centre provided all sorts of facilities to the tenants . About 1.5 million people visited it daily. Unfortunately an unexpected and unwanted incident happened to it on September 11 in 2001 . The terrorists hijacked planes and crushed into it destroying both the Twin Towers and plunging the pentagon in Washington into flames in an unprecedented assault on key symbols of the US military and financial power.
The loss of life was expected to be catastrophic from the collapse of the giant towers of the World Trade Centre where about 50,000 people worked. The enormous edifices both fell in a could of smoke and fire for two hours after the initial impacts. The attack, the worst on the US mainland in modern history, plunged the country into chaos and panic paralysing communication, closing markets and forcing the evacuation of the key buildings. Hundreds of people were burnt from head ot toe. The attack forced the evacuation of all govt. buildings in Washington including the White House and other tall buildings around the country, cut cell phone communications on the east coast and grounded all commercial planes in the USA. One of the planes that crushed into the World Trade Centre was America Airlines Flight-11. The planes blasted fiery gaping holes in the upper floors of the Twin Towers. In an hour the southern tower collapsed with heavy roar. It is an irreparable loss not for Americans but for the whole world.
