Illiteracy is a great problem in Bangladesh. Most of our people cannot read or write. So, the literacy rate in Bangladesh is too poor. It is too poor to imagine. From this problem many other problems also are arising. There are many reason behind this problem. Firstly we can mention poverty. Majority of our people live below the poverty line. They cannot manage three meals a day. They cannot send their children to schools. Though some of the guardians send their children to schools, before completing primary education they leave schools. At the very little age the children go out of their home in search of work. Now some steps have been taken by the government to solve the problem. Free education at primary level is being given at present. Secondary education for girl students has already been made free. Lack of social awareness is another problem for illiteracy. Most of the guardians are not aware of their children's education. At present, the awareness in increasing day by day. Infact every mother should be careful about her child's education. In some rural areas girls are forbidden to go to school. it is also now another problem. The guardians should give up this ancient notion. They should be frank to send their girls to schools. Not only the government but also the educated people must come forward to solve this problem. It is the duty for thew educated people to educate the illiterate. The government has take necessary steps to eradicate the root of illiteracy from the society.
