AIDS is one of the major threats on existence of mankind on earth. It has broken out in an epidemic form in many parts of the world. East African countries are suffering most. Human race is on the verge of being wiped out in many areas of South Africa, Botswana, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe etc. Among the Asian countries Thailand, Vietnam, Combodia, India, China, are most vulnerable. In India and Burma, 

AIDS is increasing at a rapid pace. This is alarming news for Bangladesh. 8000 people are dying from AIDS in each day throughout the world. 50 million people are having HIV. 20 million have already died in AIDS all over the world. Now the question is, what is AIDS ?

AIDS stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. HIV (Human Immuno Deficiency Virus) is the virus that causes AIDS. HIV is transmitted through intercourse, blood transfusion, sharing of contaminated needle in health rare settings and through drug injection and between mother and infant during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. People with HIV have what is called HIV infection.

Some of these people will develop AIDS as a result of their HIV infection. Generally people infected with HIV develop AIDS within 10-15 years. The first human case of HIV infection was detected in 1959 in the Republic of Congo. In 1983, scientists discovered the virus that causes AIDS . The virus was at first named HTLV-II/LAV. This name was later changed to HIV.

HIV destroys a certain kind of blood cell (CD4+ T cells) which is crucial to the normal function of the human immune system. In fact loss of these cells in people with HIV is an extremely powerful predictor of the development of AIDS.

Islam has forbidden all kind of extramarital sexual relationship. We must follow the rules of religion to keep ourselves safe from this fatal disease.
