Acid Throwing.

এসিড নিক্ষেপ।

In spite of strict laws against acid violence, the ghastly (   ) crime is on the rise in Bangladesh. on of the major reasons behind this is the easy availability of the substance. Anyone can go and buy acid from the market. The policy regarding its import and sale is being ignored by businessmen to make profit at any cost. Unfortunately, though we have reports of acid throwing in other countries too, the number of incidents is probably the highest in Bangladesh and has reached alarming rate. It is well known, that women are the majority of the victims here. Experts say three to five women a week are being burnt with acid in Bangladesh. Acid throwing is a crime against humanity. However, the punishments have been few and far between which encourages the criminals. In the recent years, acid has been used for most trivial ( ) of  reasons. Acid disfigures teenaged girls as they refuse absurd ( ) proposals of marriage. The criminals show no mercy in throwing acid to a face they were in love with a few days ago. The government must take strict decisions that  sale of acid is restricted. Treatment and rehabilitation facilities for the acid victims must be improved. In an effort to provide medical care for acid victims, the government has established a burn unit at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Being the only such facility in this country of 130 million people it is frequently inaccessible to victims. Long delays in medical care have hampered recovery for most victims, and if once provided, the medicine was very limited. Some NGOs offer counselling, skills training, and other rehabilitation programmes to help survivors reinstatement ( ) into society. Some criminals are destroying the image of Bangladesh. We cannot let the world think we are a barbaric ( ) nation. Let us hope the criminals are brought to justice and the victims get all the support they need.
